The 58-year old man who was last seen on March 27, 2019 in Courtenay has been located deceased. 

The Comox Valley RCMP located the man on Monday, May 13, 2019. His death is not considered suspicious and further information will be released by police.

UPDATE: Stephen was reported missing to Surrey RCMP on April 2, 2019 and the investigation has now been handed over to Comox Valley RCMP.

Investigators in Surrey determined that Stephen made his way to Courtenay and might be camping in the area. Stephen’s family and police are concerned for his well-being as it is out of character for him to be out of touch for this long.


Surrey RCMP is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a missing 58-year-old male.

Stephen MAPES was last seen on March 24 at approximately 9:00 a.m. in the 11100 block of Ellendale Drive. He has not been seen or heard from since.

Stephen is described as Caucasian, 6 feet tall with a slim build. He has short grey hair and blue eyes. He is associated to a Black Ford F150 pick-up truck with the license plate of DOGRVR.
