Merritt BC cowboy declared missing after horse spotted with no rider

Merritt RCMP along with Search and Rescue (SAR) teams continue to search for a missing male in the Merritt/Swakum Ridge area

The man was pronounced missing after his horse was spotted with full gear but no rider around 12:30 p.m. on Monday.

Loggers in the area contacted local ranchers after discovering the horse, who were able to identify its missing owner.

According to police, the 32-year-old male owner worked for a local ranch and was last seen Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. before he rode into the backcountry unbeknownst to those close to him.

Nearly 40 members of SAR alongside Police Service Dogs and RCMP Air support have now been looking for the man since Monday.

RCMP have asked the public to not participate in lone searching but to contact police with any information regarding the missing man.
